    CURRICULUM INTENT

We aim to make sure pupils are literate of religious language, concepts and open to a range of ideas and cultures; especially preparing them to challenge religious information that is inaccurate and unfair. The vision is to allow pupils to reflect fairly and accurately on religious matters whilst developing their own views and opinions of ethical issues.

It is our intent for the Religious Studies element of our school curriculum is to engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils, equipping them with a board and balanced knowledge of religious and non-religious beliefs and practices. Students will also develop skills such as critical thinking; interpretation and evaluation of religious issues. The lessons have an intention of providing a high quality, coherent and progressive experience of the subject.

The teaching of RS makes links between the beliefs, practices and value systems of a range of religions and world-views. The curriculum will help to develop responsibility and respect for all aspects of diversity, whether it be social, moral, cultural and spiritual. There are opportunities for children to develop positive attitudes and values and to reflect on and relate their learning in RS to their own experiences.

The intent is to make sure that children understand the relevance of Religious Studies in today’s modern world and how it affects our lives. The overarching concepts for ‘Religious Studies’ at Sir William Robertson Academy are tied in with the school vision of ‘ASPIRE’.
