Child development and care at Key Stage 4 and Health and Social Care at Key Stage 5 equip our students to develop not only a broad knowledge-based understanding of human development and positive and negative impacts on development, but also essential skills such as research, analysis and evaluation. Our courses enable students to explore areas that influence how we develop throughout life stages and in turn raise expectations of how we can live successful and healthy lives now and in our future.
Understanding of the different Care Values within Health and Social Care are developed to enable students to learn how to work within any child care, health or social care environment. Through work experience in Year 10 and work placements in Year 12 and 13 pupils are able to put into practice the theoretical knowledge they have gained in the classroom into 'real life' care settings such as care homes, nurseries and Early Years settings.
Our qualifications promote opportunities for students to draw from case studies and opportunities to undertake research to compliment learning and create skills that will be used throughout their lives. These skills encourage students to think and analyse how human relationships, physical environments and socioeconomic status may influence how they develop.
Through investigation of health and well-being and how our lifestyle choices affect how healthy we are, students access different resources and external agency advice and guidance that encourages them to talk about areas and raise awareness of signs and symptoms of abuse, addiction, illness and mental health.
We believe that students deserve a curriculum that prepares them for career pathways in a variety of vocational areas, providing them with the knowledge and skills within Child Care and Health and Social Care that can then be transferred into a variety of environments.
Our curriculum will ensure that all of our students will have the opportunity to develop,
Knowledge that underpins effective use of skills, processes and attitudes in the sector such as human growth and development, health and social care services and factors affecting people's health and well-being;
The development of core knowledge and understanding human growth and development, how people deal with major life events, health and social care services;
The development and application of skills, such as: practical demonstration of care values, together with the ability to reflect on your own performance;
Reflective practice through the development of skills and techniques that allow learners to respond to feedback and identify areas for improvement using relevant presentation techniques.
