Consultation on a proposed increase to Published Admissions Number and Change of Oversubscription Criteria from September 2026

Proposed Admissions Policy 2026-2027

Choosing a secondary school is one of the most important decisions you make with your child. We welcome visits to the school and it is possible to make individual appointments to see the school on a working day at almost any time of the year. Your visit would normally start at 9.00am and would last for an hour. Please contact the school office, where we will be happy to make you and your child an appointment.

All school admissions are dealt with by your local County Council. For any help with getting a place, you should contact them directly.

SWRA Admission Appeals

How to Appeal

Should you fail to receive an offer of a place at Sir William Robertson Academy, you have the right to appeal to an independent Appeals Panel, whose decisions are binding on the school and the local authority.

Appeals should be addressed in writing (using the Admission Appeal Form) to the Clerk to Governors at the Academy within 20 school days of receiving the decision letter.  The envelope should be clearly marked “Admission Appeal”. The appeal will be heard within 30 school days of the deadline for receipt of appeal applications.

Parents/carers will receive written notification of the date and time of their appeal hearing, which they can attend to explain their case. This will include a final deadline for submitting any additional information. If they wish, parents may be accompanied by an adviser or friend. Following the appeal, the Clerk to the Governors will write to parents with the decision.

Please note that Sir William Robertson Academy will not accept repeat appeals for places in the same academic year, unless there are significant and material changes in the circumstances of the parent, child or school which could warrant a further application.  Such circumstances could include moving house or medical reasons.

In accordance with the  School Admission Appeals Code 2022 , the Aspire Schools Trust Board (as the admission authority for Sir William Robertson Academy) must set a timetable for organising and hearing admission appeals. The timetable will apply to appeals for admission to Sir William Robertson Academy.

Appeals in respect of late applications will generally be heard within 40 school days of the appeal being received by school. Appeals in respect of in-year applications will be heard within 30 school days of receipt.

Appellants (the person(s) lodging an appeal) will receive a letter notifying them of the date, time and venue of the the appeals panel appointed to hear their appeal at least 10 school days before the hearing.

Appellants and the admission authority must provide the clerk to the appeals panel with any documents they wish to submit to the panel no later than 6 working days before the hearing.

The clerk to the panel will send to the panel, the appellants and the admission authority all the documentary evidence to be considered at the hearing at least 5 working days before the hearing.

The clerk to the panel will send a letter to appellants and the admission authority notifying them of the Panel’s decision and the reasons for the decision within 5 working days of the hearing wherever possible.
